In 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall in and devastated Fort Myers, Florida. The founder, Imoni Ahmad, began volunteering at The Heights Foundation to help families who were having trouble after the hurricane. While volunteering, she saw a problem in the general literacy of the children she was helping. She continued to volunteer there taking care of and teaching the kids. Two years later, as a junior in high school, she moved to Montgomery County where she recognized a similar problem; In Montgomery County’s Independent School District, only 67% of students achieved a reading proficiency level. These events, combined with her personal passion for reading, brought her to found Bound by Books to assist her community.
